I didn't hold your hands, my child, to teach you how to walk,
because I wanted you to form your own path and not follow mine.

I did not rush to you, every time you fell,
because I wanted you to know, that it is OK to fall and it is OK to fail.

I always just observed and waited to see how you react after falling,
because I did not want to teach you, that you must cry and complain every time.

Though when you cried, I rushed to you, I held you and I loved you
because I wanted you to know, that when you are in pain, always reach out.
Ask for love and ask for hugs, if that is what you need, even when you grow up.

I never followed all the rules of parenting,
because I wanted you to make your own rules too.

Never, ever did I tell you to do something just because I said so,
because I want you to be your own authority. You think and you decide.

Where ever we go, I ask you to carry your own backpack,
because you yourself are responsible for your life and consequences, my sweetheart.
There is never anyone else to blame.

I always let you choose your food and your own ice-cream,
because your happiness is your onus, my love.

I didn't hold your hands my child, because I want you to fly.
